Car Fest North 2013 Oulton Park

Car Fest North 2013.

Aston Martin Anniversary Seven Track Sprint Cars.

The Aston Martin Seven Anniversary Cars starting with LM16 then my DB MKIII DHC
I was fortunate enough to be asked to use one of my cars for the Aston Martin Anniversary Seven for the sprint display at Oulton Park race circuit.

I was initially asked to use my Aston martin DB2 Lightweight Le Mans but as the engine was broken I was asked us bring along the Aston Martin MKIII DHC (drop head coupe).

Below is a pictorial view of the 3 days of the Car Fest North organised by Chris Evens and many others.

Silverstone Classic 2013

RAC Woodcote Trophy and RAC Tourist Trophy (Pre63GT) Races

Glynn in David and Ann's DB2 (I kept may normal race number)

My DB2 Lightweight Le Mans was now out of action with a confirmed engine block crack and the only solution was to have a new 2.6L block forged by Vetus Engineering. They have now made the block the first new one produced in over 62 years. This was important for me as it was important to keep the car to the exact specification as the FIA HTTP which describes the car as an Aston Martin DB2 Lightweight Le mans 1951 specification. This therefore means I must keep the engine to the 2.6L specification rather than do the normal and make the car a 3.0L. Yes that would be faster but not correct so the expensive correct route has been take. I hope to have the car back in action at the start of the 2014 season.

Ann in front of the D type Jag

Having no car to race at the Sliverstone Classic David and Ann Reed (DAVRON) very kindly offered to loan me the car for these two races and its was agreed that I would share their Aston martin DB2 with Ann in the Woodcote Trophy Race and with David in the Tourist Trophy Pre63GT race.

Woodcote Trophy Race for pre 56 sports cars.

Grid Size:- 43

Qualifying Position:- 38

Best Lap Time:- 2.55.370

The Race:-

Finished:- 31Best Lap:- 2.49.61

We made very good progress through the field getting up to 19th at one point and with ever improving lap times.

The RAC Tourist Trophy Race for pre 63GT cars

David Reed, Glynn Allen and Jonathan Moorhouse Pre63GT race

Grid Size:- 50

Qualifying Position:-34

Best Lap Time:-2.48.833

We were initially racing in class C with the Ferrari 250 swb cars etc but after qualifying we were asked if we would race in the invitation class which was OK with us as both classes have much newer and faster cars then a 1952 DB2. (Although this is a very quick DB2).

 The Race:-

Finishing Position:-23

Best Lap time:- 2.45.009

Average Lap Time:- 2.48.000
Class C Finishing Position:- 2nd

Class INV Finishing Position:- 4th.

In class C we finished behind the winning Ferrari 250 SWB with Pearson/Oliver.
In Class INV we finished behind 3 x DB4's. We were only 1.7 sec behind the DB4 for an invitation podium finish. Considering the car is 10 years older with a smaller engine and on drum brakes we were very pleased with the result.
